The country is mining bitcoin using the heat from volcanos. El Salvador is exceptionally rich in volcanos, it has over twenty of them. This makes the country one of the largest producers of geothermal energy in the world.
On Tuesday, the president posted a short video showing a container full of mining rigs being delivered and set up in El Salvador’s facility and technicians working on installing and plugging in ASIC miners.

President Bukele has banked his political future on Bitcoin. Pushing for adoption of this currency as legal tender in his country, he gave every citizen $30 of bitcoin. To easily access the Bitcoin network and make payments, the country created the Chico wallet for its citizens, which can be downloaded from the App or Play Store.
According to statistics shared by President Nayib Bukele more than 2.25 million users have now downloaded the government’s wallet and more than 100,000 people per day are signing up for an account. Approximately 65,437 transactions are being processed per second.
