Kanav Kariya has been announced as the president of the company’s new crypto brand Jump Crypto. The 25-year-old started out at Jump Trading as an intern and will now lead the firm’s digital-asset division.
The promotion to president came along side the official launch of Jump Crypto, a move that had been six years in the making. Jump Crypto will be public-facing branch of JT’s digital asset project.
“Jump Trading has spent decades focused on building the infrastructurefor high performance systems and technologies,” Kariya says. “We’re bringing that muscle to crypto and aim to meaningfully contribute to the construction of the ‘plumbing and the railroads’ necessary for widespread adoption of crypto.” (Business Insider, 2021).
Jump Trading is a research driven quantitative trading firm, evolved from the open outcry pits of the Chicago Mercantile Exchange (CME), an organized exchange for future and options trading. Jump Trading has grown to over 1000 employees since it began.
Kanav Kariya joined the firm as an intern while he was studying at the University of Illinois. Jump Trading had a research lab near the university, which is exactly where the spark for Jump’s crypto plans was lit.
According to Bloomberg, Jump hired Kariya straight out of university in 2018. Heading Jump Crypto, the mid-twenties president will now be leading a team of more than 80 employees, worldwide. Kariya told Bloomberg that the main firm has pledged billions in capital toward cryptocurrency.
Jump Crypto will not only be trading crypto, the brand will also focus on building software infrastructure for blockchain projects in a bid to “make global crypto markets more efficient,” according to a company statement.
Jump already provides DeFi developers with price data on stocks, fiat currencies, commodities, and cryptocurrencies through blockchain projects like the Pyth network, for which Jump acts as a founding code contributor.
